How do I play CrossEights™?

Each puzzle presents you with a grid where 8 words intersect. You'll see letter options and must strategically select letters to complete all words. Use hints wisely - they help but reduce your score. The more letters you enter correctly and the fewer hints you use, the higher your score!

Is CrossEights™ free to play?

Yes! CrossEights™ is completely free to play. You can enjoy unlimited puzzles, track your statistics, and compete on the leaderboard without any cost.

How is my score calculated?

Your score is based on several factors: how many letters you guess correctly (5 pts each for player-solved letters, 1 pt for hinted letters), how many hints you use (fewer hints = higher bonus, up to 50 pts), and for daily puzzles, a speed bonus if you finish faster than the median time for that difficulty level (up to 50 bonus points).

Can I play on my phone?

Absolutely! CrossEights™ is fully responsive and works great on mobile devices, tablets, and desktop computers. Your progress syncs across all your devices.

How do I create an account?

You can start playing immediately as a guest and even create a unique display name for your appearance on the leaderboards. To play across multiple devices, simply sign up with your email. Your account works on both CrossEights and CrossEights Daily.

What happens to my data?

Is CrossEights a crossword puzzle?

Not exactly since there are no clues. But the logic, reasoning and vocabulary skills you'll develop with CrossEight will really boost your crossword solving skills!

How can I improve my scores?

Practice regularly to expand your vocabulary, start with letters you're confident about, look for common letter patterns, use the theme clue strategically, and try to minimize hint usage. Speed comes with familiarity!

Can I play more than once a day?

On CrossEights (crosseights.com), yes — click New Puzzle at any time to load a new puzzle. On CrossEights Daily (crosseightsdaily.com), you get one puzzle per day. Come back tomorrow for a fresh challenge!

What is CrossEights Daily?

CrossEights Daily is a companion experience at crosseightsdaily.com where everyone plays the same puzzle each day. It's a great way to compare your skills with friends and the broader community on a level playing field.

How does the daily difficulty schedule work?

Daily puzzles follow a weekly difficulty ramp: Monday and Tuesday are Easy, Wednesday and Thursday are Medium, Friday and Saturday are Difficult, and Sunday features a Special Blend. This gives you a predictable rhythm and makes it easy to compare scores with others who played the same puzzle.

What is the alert bell for?

If you've got a high score on the leaderboard, and someone challenges your high score and beats your score, you'll get a notification. Don't let your high scores fade, re-challenge!!

How does the leaderboard work?

The leaderboard ranks players based on their puzzle scores. You can view rankings by time period (today, this week, all time) and filter by puzzle difficulty. Compete against other players and climb the ranks!

When does the daily puzzle reset?

A new puzzle is available each day at midnight in your local timezone. Make sure to finish the current puzzle before then — once a new day starts, the previous puzzle is gone!

Can I replay a daily puzzle I missed?

No, each daily puzzle is available for that day only. If you miss a day, you won't be able to go back and play it. Make sure to check in each day so you don't miss out!

What is the daily speed bonus?

Finish faster than the puzzle's median solve time and earn extra points across 8 tiers: Tier 1 (10%+ faster) = 5 pts, Tier 2 (15%+) = 10, Tier 3 (20%+) = 15, Tier 4 (30%+) = 25, Tier 5 (40%+) = 30, Tier 6 (50%+) = 40, Tier 7 (55%+) = 45, Tier 8 (60%+) = 50. The median time varies by puzzle difficulty.

Is there a daily leaderboard?

Yes! Each daily puzzle has its own leaderboard so you can see how your score stacks up against everyone who played the same puzzle that day.

Do my daily scores count on the main leaderboard?

Yes, daily puzzle completions are recorded to your account just like any other puzzle. Your scores contribute to your overall statistics and appear on the main leaderboard as well.

Can I play more than one puzzle per day?

On CrossEights Daily you get one puzzle per day. If you want unlimited puzzles, head to CrossEights at crosseights.com where you can play as many as you like!
